Step 1 – You must accept the fact that you have fallen short of God’s standard to go to Heaven.

Romans 3:23 – “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
Romans 3:10 – “As it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one.”

Everyone has sinned. You must repent. You must realize that you have offended the God of the universe and that you are in trouble with Him.

Step 2 – You must understand that there is a penalty for the sins you have committed.

Romans 6:23 – “For the wages of sin is death…”
Revelation 20:14-15 – “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”

Hell is a real place where real people in real bodies fall and burn and scream forever. It is a horrible fact, but a true fact.

Step 3 – You must understand the wonderful truth that Jesus Christ has already paid your sin debt.

Romans 5:6 – “For when we were yet without strength…Christ died for the ungodly.”
Romans 5:8 – “But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Hebrews 2:9 – “…that by the grace of God should taste death for every man.”

Jesus Christ suffered the torments of hell on the cross for you. Now your way is PAID to go to Heaven, but there is a fourth and final step.

Step 4 – You must accept what Christ did for you by believing on Him.  In Acts 16:30, the simple question is asked: “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” In verse 31, there is the simple answer: “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ,” not just “believe in.”

To believe on Christ is to trust Him, to rest on His finished work, to believe that He is able to keep you out of Hell and to take you to Heaven when you simply ask Him to be your Saviour. It is a matter of trusting Him completely to forgive your sins and to take you to Heaven.

Romans 10:13 – “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Why not trust Him now? He promised He would save you!

Here is an example of a prayer:

Dear Lord Jesus, I am a sinner, but I know that you paid for my sins on the cross. This moment, as best as I know how, I receive you as my saviour. I trust you to become my saviour right now and to take me to Heaven when I leave this world. Thank you, Lord, for dying for me.  – Amen

The Bible says in Acts 16:31, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.” Are you believing on Him, trusting Him, depending on Him completely to take you to Heaven? The Bible says in Romans 10:13, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Were you sincere when you prayed that prayer? If you were, then according to these verses, you can have the assurance of you salvation.
